ORIGINS OF ROCK: Did you know that Disc Jockey,Alan Freed started the use of the phrase Rock & Roll based on a black American community slang term for sex in the 40's and 50's? Did you know that before and after discovering Elvis Presley, Sun Records Founder/Producer, Sam Phillips was quoted on several interviews saying "I knew that If I could find a white man to sing this black music I'd have a gold mine!" Did you know that the term "HEAVY METAL" was alledgedly first applied to Jimi Hendrix in a New York Times article which stated “His music sounds like heavy metal falling from the sky"? Not until Led Zeppelin and the likes was this term used again to describe this energetic intense delivery of rock music. Rock Pioneers.Com seeks to capture people of color's experience and involvement in creating and living rock music from the eyes of the remaining rock architects as well as the people who continue the legacy, through their music and as fans. Ultimately Rock Pioneers.Com is looking to facilitate the movement that places rock back in the hands of the rightful heirs. |

| THE PROJECT Rockpioneers.com looks to provide an accurate depiction of where rock music began,where it is today and where it is heading in regards to the black rock musician. This is not an effort to divide the music into black or white but to be a vehicle for Musician of African descent to have increased opportunities to display their gifts and earn a living. SLASH SLASH was born Saul Hudson. His mother is a Black American, and his father is a white Englishman. Most known for Guns N'Roses, SLASH resigned from GNR in October 1996 then resurrected SLASH's Snakepit. Later he joined the super band Velvet Revolver with members from Guns N’Roses and Stone Temple Pilot in the summer of 2003. Slash has already announced plans to start a new band in the very near future. |
